Double Barrel Popper

These poppers are tied using double barrel popper heads produced by flymen fishing company and feature a tailing section of premium saddle hackle feathers, premium bucktail and flashabou. I tie these poppers on oversized hooks, bigger than recommended, to both provide a bigger hook gap for optimal hook ups as well as to use the extra weight of the oversized hook to help keel the fly and make the fly sit lower in the water than most popper flies which helps provide a bigger pop. These poppers have a similar profile to bottleneck style poppers that are extremely effective for both striped bass and offshore species like tuna. These flies are tied on Ahrex Bluewater hooks and are capable of landing the biggest fish in the world. The 5/0 size flies are approximately 6" long and the jumbo 8/0 size are approximately 9" long. The 8/0 size tied with the XL size popper head is buoyant enough to fish effectively with an intermediate or sink tip line without sinking the fly.
